Inside the episode
The money anxiety nobody mentioned
Tracey started out as a language graduate teaching French and Spanish to business owners. Thirty years of entrepreneurship followed, through events, media and an accountancy business run with her husband.
Then perimenopause arrived, alongside Covid. She could barely get out of bed and found herself with an irrational fear about her future wealth. Nobody was talking about how menopause affects money and risk, so she set up Menomoney to help other women.
Money stories start young
By the age of seven, Tracey says, we have already formed our relationship with money. Children soak up phrases like "money doesn't grow on trees" or "we can't afford that", and carry that sense of scarcity into business.
In founders, it sounds like "if I put my prices up I'll lose clients" or "I don't deserve to be that successful". Most people don't even realise those beliefs are there.
Change the words, change the outcome
Tracey's method is simple: identify the belief, find evidence that it isn't true, reframe it, then repeat. "I'm never going to have enough to retire" becomes "I'm putting small things in place to have a good retirement".
It sounds small, but through repetition the new language starts to feel possible, and you begin acting on it.
Stop undervaluing yourself
The biggest pattern Tracey sees in women is undercharging and overdelivering. Women weren't allowed their own bank account in the UK until 1974, and many of us are the first generation building real wealth on our own terms.
That's why resilience matters so much. Keep going, back yourself and lean on other women. When women come together, the impact is huge.
