Inside the episode
A brand that wasn't her
Suzanne Davison had a business with a brand. The trouble was, the brand wasn't her.
After her divorce, she realised her business had been a way to avoid an unhappy home. Stepping out as herself felt scary. It also set her free.
The same cage, painted differently
Many founders leave a job to escape a cage, then build a new one without noticing. Suzanne has done it herself.
You are your business. If you don't know who you are, how can you talk about what you do?
Start with your values
Grab a coffee and a piece of paper. Write down why you are doing this, what your values are and what you really appreciate.
When you are not living by your values, you will never feel peaceful. If you say family comes first, check where your time actually goes.
What are you really chasing?
Suzanne works with lots of successful people who still feel empty. Often they are chasing approval, the next deal or the next client.
Ask yourself what you are really after, and how you will know when you have got there. Success should feel like peace, freedom and joy, not burnout.
