Don't dress to impress - dress to take control

Clare Chambers, The Personal Brand Stylist

When most of us think about personal branding, we think website, social media, tone of voice. What we don't think about? What we're wearing. Clare introduces her game-changing Five-Word Style Manifesto - a strategy that helps you nail exactly what you want your wardrobe to say about you.

Three things to take away

  • Your clothes are part of your marketing. Make them say what you want to say.

  • Start with five words about who you are and where you are heading.

  • When you know who you are, you dress for your people without trying.

Inside the episode

Your clothes speak first

Before you say a word, your clothes have already said something. Clare Chambers wants to make sure they say the right thing.

She started as a fashion assistant at Glamour magazine, then styled celebrities, adverts and TV shows like 10 Years Younger and What Not to Wear. Working with real women on those shows changed everything.

The Five-Word Style Manifesto

Clare's method is simple. Choose five words that sum up who you are, the person you are becoming and the look you want.

Those five words become your filter. Every outfit, every photo shoot and every video call gets checked against them, so your wardrobe tells one clear story.

Online, people judge in seconds

Most of us meet clients on screens now. People decide what they think of you in seconds, often before you speak.

There is no such thing as a normal day any more, so your wardrobe needs variety too. Pieces that mix and match help you show up well wherever the diary takes you.

Take control of your narrative

This is not about dressing to impress or chasing compliments. It is about matching how you look with how you run your business.

If your emails sound polished and professional but your clothes say something else, that is a brand mismatch. Get them lined up and you take control of how people see you.

The mixology moment

At the end of every episode, our guests choose one word to put into the cocktail shaker for success and one word to put on ice. Here is what Clare Chambers had to say...

Into the cocktail shaker for success

Personal packaging

The way you dress is your personal packaging. It sends a subconscious message, so line it up with the rest of your brand.

Put on ice

Clothes don't matter

Stop thinking of clothes as something you just throw on. Whatever your industry, what you wear matters.

Clare Chambers

“They need their clothing to be this visual message.”
